Breath of Life Retreats

A few years ago I was looking for a community and found it in an unexpected place — an online Bible study that grew to more than three hundred women.

It was real. We prayed for each other, we showed up for each other, and we did it entirely through a screen. After a while I started wondering what it would be like to be in the same room.

That’s where Breath of Life started. A couple of times a year we gather in person — for rest, for study, and for the kind of conversation that’s hard to have in a comment thread.

What a weekend looks like

Friday

Everyone arrives in the afternoon. We spend the evening getting to know each other over dinner. If you're coming alone and don't know anyone, this is the night that fixes that.

Saturday

Breakfast and devotional in the morning. One activity together during the day. Then the afternoon is yours — nap, walk, read, or sit and talk, whatever you actually need. Dinner together, and Bible study in the evening.

Sunday

Breakfast and devotional, then we head home.

The rhythm is intentional. There’s enough structure that you’re not wondering what to do with yourself, and enough open space that you’re not running from one thing to the next. Rest is the point, not a gap between sessions.

Who it's for

Women. Any woman.

You don’t need to have been in Bible study before, and you don’t need to arrive with your faith figured out. Some women come every time and know everyone. Some come alone, having never met a single person there. Both are normal.

If you’re tired, or you’ve been meaning to go deeper and haven’t found the room for it, this is built for you.

Before You Apply

I want to be upfront about what these retreats are, because the wrong fit is hard on everybody.

This is a small group. Five people, plus me. That’s on purpose. It means you’ll know everyone by the end of the first evening, and it means there’s nowhere to hide if you’re having a hard week — which is usually the point.

There’s a rhythm to the days. Time set aside for teaching, reflection, and conversation. There’s rest built in and there’s free time, but it’s a structured few days, not an open schedule you fill however you like.

It’s not a vacation, and it’s not a girls’ trip. There’s an excursion and there’s beauty and we will laugh a lot. But you’re coming to do something, not just to get away. If what you need right now is a beach and a book, that’s a completely legitimate need — it’s just not this.

You’ll be sharing a room. Two to a room. Part of the budget, part of the experience.

Come as you are. You don’t need to have your life together, know your Bible well, or arrive with something profound to say. Most people show up tired and a little unsure. That’s normal and it’s welcome.

One more thing. Once you join the list on this page, I’ll email you a short application — not to screen you, but because knowing what you’re walking in with helps me plan the time well. There are no wrong answers, and I read every one myself.
